ASSOCIATION OF THE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED SUBOTICA
“Association of the blind and visually impaired Subotica” was founded on January 15, 1951. The association has 470 members who actively engage in drama, recitation and literary section, as well as in many sports activities. We successfully collaborate with associations of the blind from Osijek, Sarajevo, Pécs-Hungary, and other associations from Serbia.

OUR LITTLE STORY AND GREAT LOVE
We were over the moon when we found out that we will perform at the BIT festival because it comes as a confirmation of what we do and a possibility to represent ourselves in a new way.
Only a year ago we couldn’t imagine being in a theater play. It was a challenge and fortune that favors the brave, but let’s start from the beginning.
Sometime in the winter of 2022, my good friend, psychologist Maja Gvozdenović, held some kind of workshop at the “Association of the blind and visually impaired Subotica”. She told me about her meeting with these warm and wonderful people. I immediately asked her: “Why don’t we make a play with them?” (I must say that I have already worked with Maja on several plays with children with developmental disabilities in the “Kolevka” institution.) We held a meeting with 7-8 interested members and they stayed till the end. Even then, I already wanted to work on “Radovan III”, text by Dušan Kovačević. However, during the conversation, I decided to mix things up and put a woman as the lead of the story. That’s how Radovanka was created. And I was not wrong. We faithfully followed Kovačević’s text, without looking at the recording of the play or talking to the wonderful maestro Zoran Radmilović. We wanted to create our own Radovanka. Without special preparations or financial resources, we started the first rehearsals in March, met once a week on the association’s premises and had the premier in autumn. The rest, for us, is history.
Here we are now, at the BIT festival. We are looking forward to socializing with Zagreb, its people and other participants of the festival. We believe you will like our play.
